I got caught up in the buzz last week and signed up for another half marathon in mid May. The Brooklyn Half Marathon was on my list at the beginning of the year of races I wanted to run. I love the idea of running the streets of my borough and best of all ending up in Coney Island – how fantastic will that be to dip my toes in the water after a spring run through the rolling streets of BK.
I’m even more excited because my husband wanted to run it with me! So I signed us both up and within 10 hours, the race was sold out! The Brooklyn Half has historically always been one of the more popular of the 5 borough races, but 10 hours was a record sold out. I think I will be really ready for this one. But my challenge is will I be ready for the More Half in 2 weeks? I’m starting to doubt myself and wonder if it will be detrimental to the 2nd half if I do the More unprepared.
The ladies I will be running with (and have never met in person, only online) have been hit with a spade of injuries, so many of them will be walking and wogging, which gives me hope that I can do this.
I am starting to get more sleep thanks to a 5 month old who is starting to sleep better through the night. Problem is, when she doesn’t sleep, it is a spectacular mess such as last night. So today I am feeling melancholy, tired and doubtful. What if I wake up on Half Marathon day with only 4 hours sleep? How will I cope?
I’d like to finally make it out to a run with Black Girls Run this week. It will be hard with Easter and my mother and sister coming, but I think actually meeting this ladies in person before the race would be a great help. Just when I was ready to start running with them, my daughter started staging a hunger strike. after 2 trial runs on the bottle she decided she didn’t know how and was not interested in drinking from one. Well, she’s now back to kinda drinking form a bottle – very slow and not very efficient, but enough that I should be able to get out for a run and not worry about her needed a feed. At the end of the day, like the doctor said, at her wight she won’t starve within an hour and she’ll figure it out when she is hungry. The major downfall is that dad may have to deal with a screaming kiddo. I went out on Friday evening though, and all went well.
This week I will make a final call about the More Half and will let you all know for sure next week.
Have a great week everyone! Drink lots of water, remember to smile and keep moving!
Woohoo! So glad you and your hubby were able to get registered! I know being a mother runner means learning to be flexible when it comes to training and family. I also know that you’ll find a way, even if you only get 4 hours of sleep before the race. You can do it!!

Wow – a half marathon! I hope to be able to do that one day!! I just signed up for my 2nd 5K. My son refused bottles when I left him with my mother-in-law for a few hours. I felt so bad, she never called us she just kept trying to make him happy!! We switched the nipples to the fast flow ones the next time she watched him and he had no problem 🙂
