I had the pleasure of attending the blogger launch of J&R Jr this weekend in Downtown Manhattan. J&R Jr is the newest children’s store on the block in a neighborhood becoming increasingly more and more family friendly. Founder Jason Friedman is the son of the original J&R Founders Joe and Rachelle. This newest division of the iconic 40 year old family run business features the latest and greatest in products for children aged 0-9. It is a wide open space with an area for events, a guarded play space, TV screens and aisles and aisles of toys for kids and gear for parents. Even though there is a lot on offer, the space felt inviting and not overcrowded, which is great for navigating with littlies. Our lucky little people had the opportunity to see Magician Amazing Max as well as a visit from princesses (my 4 year old boy has a fascination for princesses, so he loved this). I really appreciated that this was a family event, and it was nice to see Jason, his wife Danielle and their kids mingling with all of us.
Even though I am Brooklyn Based, it was easy to get there on the F and C line. There are at least 5 other lines that stop within walking distance, so the location is convenient for most making it a great place to find all you need in one central space. You can easily see that the shelves are stocked with hand picked items – their is only quality toys and gear on hand, no plastic-fantastic-not-gonna-last-crap.
I will definitely return for the quality, service and because they have a dedicated lactation room (can’t beat that!). If you are in New York city this weekend (February 11-12) make sure to head down to J&R Jr for the 2 day Kidstravaganza Grand Opening. There will be lots to keep the kids entertained while you get your shopping fix on.
You can see more photos from the event on the Mama goes BAM Facebook page.
What do you look for in a children’s store?
disclosure: I was invited to attend the pre-launch and received a gift certificate to J&R Jr as a thanks for my time. I received no other compensation. All opinions expressed above are my own.
I have not heard of that store. I wonder if they have any in So. Ca? It looks like a great store and how nice they carry ages 0-9!

When I used to nurse, I used to look for those lactation rooms!!
Now they are older, I look for a place where they can eat snacks and have rest rooms.
OMG the strollers look fantastic! I love places that have lactation rooms.

It was definitely kid-friendly. Lots of room to navigate with a stroller, TV screens and a central play area.
I wish they had a J&R JR here in Florida! That looks & sounds amazing! I look for an activity area in childrens stores, where they can have some light play or reading/picture book area. I like how Barnes & Nobles has story time…it would be nice if stores for kids implemented something like that or like J&R JR had the magician.
