What’s in a Name

I have a name that people are never sure how to pronounce. If you watch the video, you can hear the pronunciation and how I came to be named Ghada. I was so close to being named “Nadia” as thousands of little girls born around the same time as me were. Nadia Comaneci was the first female gymnast ever to be awarded a perfect score of 10 in an Olympic gymnastic event. This all happened the day before I was born at the Montreal Summer Olympics. Montreal is where I was born.

In the 4 months since my daughter was born, I’ve realized that I’ve given her the same fate – a name that people have trouble pronouncing.

Did you have your child’s name all figured out before they were born?

I’m right there with you! Most people cannot pronounce my name right. However, I had the pronunciation of yours correct!
