Getting My Life to Vibe: Finding Balance

I wish I could say that finding the balance between family, friends, work and time for me is a no-brainer. But, the truth is that this fine balance does not come without conscious effort. I have to remind myself to stay flexible and most of all to take the time to enjoy those little moments with my kids and my husband that are gone in the blink of an eye. My daughter’s first teeth coming in. My son running a full-sized track for the first time on his own (at his insistence) and my husband, my love, my best friend bringing me home a gorgeous fragrant flower – just because.

I might want something to happen quicker than it does in actuality, but hey, it still happens right? I try to stay focused on my career goals, while remembering to put my family top of the list. For me, I can’t be happy in life if both of these areas of my life are not vibing.

A Successful Midweek Date Night is Possible!

My husband and I recently had a not so successful date night, we’ve figured it all out now and now what not to do next time. In the meantime, I thought I’d also solicit some helpful tips from a bloggy friend.

Finding time for your spouse can sometimes be tricky. You have work, friends, taking care of the household, and children. Your spouse seems to be the easiest thing to push to the back burner.

One way to put your spouse on the front burner and reconnect as a couple is to plan midweek date nights. Now, midweek date nights do not need to be as lengthy and planned out as their conventional counterparts – weekend date nights. In fact, they do not even need to be at night! Here are some ways to fit some “us” time into your hectic week without it feeling like a stressor.

Mommy and Daddy Need a Date Night

That’s the hubster (Big Monkey) and I. We are a happy couple, but like many other couples with kids, we just don’t get as many opportunities to go out *alone* in the evenings as much as we’d like. I admit, that with having 2 kids my priorities have shifted. I am most often happier staying in and playing board games with Mr 4.5 or snuggling up with hubby and watching a movie. But, with the sun shining and after 2 winters in a row (coming from winter in New Zealand to winter in New York) I am ready to shake off the layers and step out with my man.  But again, the aforementioned kiddos makes that a bit difficult – it’s not always easy to organize a sitter, and up until just a few weeks ago it wasn’t always guaranteed that my lil Miss would take a bottle in my absence. So, understandably I was hesitant to leave her at night. Thankfully, she is successfully drinking from a sippy cup after trying out a gazillion bottles – that is one thing working in our favor for trying to get out for a date night. And she has been sleeping through the might for months now, another thing in our favor.

Spice Up Summer with Essie Collection

Essie Summer Collection – Fear or Desire

a bright orange crush: DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde free

This bottle of Essie nail polish goes for about $8 where all good nail polishes are sold. All I can say is what a difference a quality polish makes. I don’t spend that much on nail polish, and have only ever had Essie if I go for a manicure. Though I only put a base coat and 2 coats (no top coat) the polish lasted for at least 5 days. It is not a color I would have chosen myself, but I have to say it does suit me and I like it for summer.

Come link up with me over at Fabulous but Evil and show us your nail polish purchases or recommendations, pictures of your manicured nails (whether done at home or at the salon), your nail polish tips and trends, etc.

The Nail Files

What’s your favorite polish brand?

I was given a free product because I’m a Klout influencer. I was under no obligation to receive the sample or talk about Essie. I get no additional benefits for talking about the product or company. As always all opinions are 100% my own and I only share details for products I truly like.
