July Fitness Photo-A-Day-Challenge #BAMFitPhotoADay

I’ve tried doing a photo-a-day challenge in the past, but for some reason have never finished out the month. I do take oodles of pictures everyday on my phone, but sometimes I don’t make the time to post them either. I’m really enjoying Instagram at the moment, even more so now that Instagram have added video (with filters!) to the mix.

So, in an effort to keep connecting with all of YOU via Instagram and to continue to motivate myself as I start month 5 of 6 on Shaklee 180™ I have created my very on Photo-A-Day Fitness Challenge for July!

Can you believe I am already at the end of month 4? I sure can’t and I am truly amazed and happy with how much this program has changed my life, I am already starting to feel sad about it being over – even though I still have 2 months to go. So, I promised myself this month that I wouldn’t babble in the update video, but unfortunately I did! I wasn’t able to edit much, so I will break it down for you below in case you find it too painful to watch.

Non-Toxic DIY Fingerpaint in 5 Minutes or Less

I was so excited to have made our own bright and colorful fingerpaints using only yogurt and food coloring. It takes no time at all, and this DIY alternative to store bought fingerpaints is cost effective and quick to make. Plus its always great to be able to make the colors and quantities that you want. My Little Miss has just entered into one of those growth spurt periods where suddenly she is learning and exploring at an exponential rate. With this growth, Mama needs to come up with new ways for her to experience the world around her. I thought back to what Mr P liked when he was this age, around 20 months and my mind went to tactile activities like fingerpaint and play-doh.

Summer Solstice with Mind Over Madness Bikram in Times Square

How’s everyone’s summer going so far? I know, I know it has only been 2 days. I can’t help but feel that they have been a glorious 2 days though. The weather has been great – hot, breezy and not too much humidity. It is the weekend and I took a day off work on Friday (Summer Solstice) and headed to the Crossroads of the Worlds, better known as Times Square! Mr BAM was on Summer Friday so I signed us both up for a Bikram Yoga class smack in the middle of Times Square. It was phenomenal! I mean if you can find peace and focus in Times Square, then you can find it anywhere.

Back in 2005, I discovered Bikram Yoga at a Women’s Expo when I was living in Christchurch, New Zealand. The woman at the booth was offering  a one week pass, come as many times as you wanted for one week for $12, normally that was the cost of one class. Somehow she convinced me with her talk of the medical benefits, weight loss and natural facial (I came to realize this last one was true – my face always glowed when I did Bikram!). My husband was going away on business that week, and I thought what the hey, I’d give it a try! I did 3 classes that week, slept like a baby each time, loss weight and was hooked.

My husband noticed the difference when he returned (yes, after one week!) and though it took a few months, he eventually came to classes with me. I ended up being a fantical Bikram yogi, turning several friends onto the practice and continuing to practice just shy of 2 months before Mr P’s due date of October 31, 2007. I did a few classes after his birth, but have never ben able to get back into the same groove. With classes lasting 90 minutes, plus final savasana “corpse pose” (final relaxation) of 5 or so minutes, plus showering time, that is 2 hours plus that I have had a hard time finding since kids.

Whoa, here we are rolling into just over halfway through month 4 of my journey on the Shaklee 180™ weight management program. If you watched my video from last month you’ll see that I was a little underwhelmed by my month 3 progress. To be fair, I was losing weight and trying to stay positive about this fact, but the numbers had slowed from 7 pound weight loss in one month to just a meager 3 pounds (insert sad panda face here).

This month, I decided to go a little Sigmund Freud on myself and examine where this anger towards myself was coming from. In a nutshell, this is what I decided…

Losing weight is hard, y’all!

I take part in what I consider to be a moderate amount of physical activity 3-5 times per week (depending on the week). But when life kicks me in the butt, I get really down on myself. I’m someone that doesn’t function past zombie level when my sleep is interrupted, and last month as well as the beginning of this month it was. You see  this beautiful girl, this beautiful ray of light, yes my Little Miss 19 month old ball of energy. She decided to go from a reasonably good sleeper, sleeping from 7:30 at night til anywhere from 6:30-7 in the morning. And then turned into waking in the middle of the night for hours at a time to then waking for the day anywhere from 5-6 in the morning! Aye, ay, ay! This was just not working for this mama.

Part of what I knew I had to do if Shaklee 180™ was going to be successful for me was to start to cut out the late nights on the computer and get to bed earlier. I was mostly starting to do this before Shaklee, but in the past 3 months I had gotten even better at it, opting to turn off the computer and either go to bed uber early or sneak in another metabolic boosting 15-20 minute workout. So her changes in sleep were setting me back.
