Mamavation Monday: Just keep it pumping

My 3 month old is starting to get a little better with sleep and so I am starting to sleep a little bit more, thank heavens! As a result of that, I’ve got the energy  to do more strength training at home. With every workout my energy levels increase so it’s a win-win situatiion. But, we got a big dump of snow on the weekend which is making it even more difficult for me to get out for a run. I could get out there with my normal shoes, but I risk slipping on black ice – and that’s not a risk I’m willing to take. It’s not in the budget at the moment to buy yak traks or Stabilicers either.

The other options are to run in the daytime when my toddler is at Pre-k and I only have the littlest, problem with that is I can’t track down an all weather cover for my jogging stroller. It’s as if someone is conspiring against me and every time I think I’ve found the perfect one, the shop is either out of stock, gone out of business or no longer carrying it. It’s my mission to track it down in the next couple of weeks.

The other option is to run when my husband is home. In theory this should be simple enough as he is willing to “do the time” and stay with the kids on his own for an hour or so while I get a few miles in. My problem is that I just can’t find the time in the day to pump and leave him enough milk for the wee one. I’m hoping that I may be able to find the time to start this week. Don’t judge, it’s always so hard at the beginning as your body gets used to the pump, it feels a little useless those first few times. I’m trying to remind myself of the little things I’ve been missing out on because I can’t time her feeds perfectly or because I can’t leave her with someone with some extra milk. Hopefully this reminder will make me start up the pump instead of take a breather when all is calm on the home front. If you pump, when do you fit it into your day?

The Mamavation question of the week is: Who is your biggest inspiration when it comes to healthy lifestyle?

I found this a hard one to answer, so of course I turned to pinterest! I’ve compiled a board of Amazing Female Athletes, check it out. Who have I missed and who would you add? And if you’d like an invite to pinterest, let me know in the comments, I’d be happy to hook you up!

  1. I often find the time to pump while my husband drives the family places, while in the car with him. I’ve gotten to a point that I feed baby & go because I hate pumping. I used to nurse on 1 side & pump the other back in the day. I’m just trying to figure out how I was able to pump with my older two & now it seems miserable to even think about it.
Glad you are getting some rest now. Good luck!
