Mamavation Monday: getting back on the horse

Well, it’s been a long time since I updated on a Monday. Just last week I did a video explaining how my half marathon training for April is not going very well. I suppose saying it out loud has been a bit of a kick in the butt for me, and I’m already feeling more positive about what I am doing to get back in shape. My updates have been few and far between because I have been particularly happy with my input (nor results), I know now that talking about it might have made things better earlier.

I expected too much from myself and my body after the birth of Monkey #2 nearly 4 months ago. Our family life is settling down again and I need to move on, not beat myself up and get back onto a more structured training schedule. Yes, I’ve been doing situps and pushups here and there, but the fact that I did not have a schedule to follow meant that I did not really know what I was trying to achieve. I’m a little anal like that, I need a schedule.

So, the big steps for me this week are to start doing the Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred. I’ve had good results with it in the past. I’m only aiming for 3 times a week along with a run 3-4 times per week as well. I’m taking measurements tonight and will get started. No scale in my house, I don’t do scales, they anger me and don’t truly represent what I am achieving in terms of weight loss, strength, flexibility, overall fitness.

I’ve been eating okay, lots of greens and raw foods have been back on the menu since Christmas, so I only need to make minor tweaks to my diet.

I’m feeling altogether quite jazzed, I’ve been running to the park with my 4 year old quite a bit lately and its such an amazing park, I can’t wait to fully run it…and at my pace 🙂

  1. Way to go, mama!! I need to get in the groove of an exercise routine. Right now I basically run around the cul-de-sac while my kids ride their bikes. Not exactly cardio but still better than nothing. I hope.
