Sisters are Like Fat Thighs

When I think of my sister there is not much that she hasn’t been around for to experience in my life. We had a few rough patches back in our late teens when somehow we just couldn’t gel. But once we got through that awkward phase, we’ve always been there for each other – well at least that is how I feel about her!

Even during one of the scariest moments of my life in recent times, she took leave from work and hopped on a bus from Ottawa to New York city to be with me and the family, to help us through and make sure we were ok.

This National Sister’s Day, I send big fat squishy hugs to my sister. Mwah x

11 Reasons to Stay at Family-Friendly SpringHill Suites Philadelphia Langhorne

I recently had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday at the SpringHill Suites Philadelphia Langhorne. I can’t thank them enough for the complimentary stay and for being part of an unforgettable birthday. With just an hour and a half drive from New York city, it makes for a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is not always easy to find time for an extended vacation with the family, so getting away close by to the closest hotel to Sesame Place is a pretty good idea for a nearcation for a family of four with 2 kids under 6.

Elmo was waiting for us with a bouquet of flowers!

Here are just a few reasons why I’d recommend SpringHill Suites Philadelphia Langhorne for your next family-friendly stay.

1. Complimentary 24 hour valet service. This may not seem like a big deal when you have kids and are not likely to be out and about at all hours of the night, but trust me this valet service is more than meets the eye. As our very first point of contact with the hotel, the valet were helpful, almost like a mini-tourist desk. It is also nice to have free parking. The front desk staff was equally as friendly, but you don’t normally expect that level of service from the valet staff.

2. Did you catch what I said above, yep that’s right SpringHill Suites Philadelphia Langhorne is the closest hotel to the ever popular Sesame Place. Just park your car, put on your bathing suit and follow the path less than 10 minutes from the front desk to the Sesame Place gate. So convenient if you need to duck back for an afternoon nap so the kids can stay awake til the night time parade at 9PM and close the park with their favorite furry animals. We were happy to be able to stroll over to bed rather than deal with the traffic of everyone driving home. Less travel with kids that late at night, means less chances of a meltdown!

The heart marks the spot! That's how close SpringHill Suites Philadelphia Langhorne is to Sesame Place

Create with the Crayola Get Out and Create Pack

Thanks to Crayola for providing my son with the Get Out and Create Pack to help him continue to nurture his love to create – from the playground, to quiet time at home or even on the road.

Much to my husband’s delight, my son is a natural artist. In a former life when he was much much younger Mr BAM was a celebrated artist selling paintings from his traveling adventures and inspiring interest in his paintings that took up entire walls. Once upon a time it seemed to us that Little Mr P would never progress beyond the scribble. As first time parents we didn’t realize that he was on a totally normal trajectory and now, he definitely has an eye for detail, color and is a born artist.

See that chalk art below. Yes our Mr P drew that in the playground with Crayola Washable Sidewalk Chalk. See, the eye patch…It’s a ninja. Pretty good I think, but then again maybe I’m just biased cause I’m his mama.

As parents we all get caught up in molding our kids into the image we want them to be, not necessarily what they naturally are trying to be. Mr P loves to create, play with paints, mix colors and figure out the exact detail that will bring his drawings alive. I like Crayola products because they let kids be kids – mix, match, draw and erase and as mom I don’t have to worry about a huge mess.

Because we are in a rental house, I am always a little hesitant to use sidewalk chalk out the front of our house – our landlord can be picky. But with the Crayola Washable Sidewalk Chalk simply spray away with water and it’s gone!

We recently took a roadtrip through Connecticut to Rhode Island and the Crayola Color Wonder Mini Stow and Go was the perfect carry case and drawing table for him while in the back of the car.

The markers color only on special paper and not on skin, furniture or carpets. Bonus! The last thing we need is for him to leave his mark behind in a rental car.

Before we even took off, he had popped open the storage and started on his first of many creations.

Delivery Man Movie Puts a Twist on Family

Delivery Man stars Vince Vaughn, Cobie Smulders and Chris Pratt and will be in theaters November 22. Vince Vaughn plays an affable underachiever looking for his purpose in life, when he finds out he’s fathered 533 children through anonymous donations to a fertility clinic 20 years ago. Now he must decide whether or not to come forward when 142 of them want to meet their biological father.

Wowsers! Can you imagine? When I think that 2 little people look up to me and look to me for guidance…the power and importance of being a mother is at once energizing, and a heavy (but happy to have) burden. Will I scar them with my own “baggage” and issues? Will I always be able to provide for them and nurture their natural talents and abilities? Will they want and need my love, affection and opinion?

I’m sure we will have our ups and downs as a family, but between 3 countries, 4 cities and 2 continents since I first met Mr BAM in Auckland, New Zealand and since we had our son Mr P in Christchurch, then moved to Auckland and then New York while I was 6 months pregnant with our now American Little Miss – phew! I couldn’t imagine living this adventure without one of these kiddies. My kids are super special, Mr P particularly to move from New Zealand to New York and to have enjoyed every minute of it and to continue to thrive.

Non-Toxic DIY Fingerpaint in 5 Minutes or Less

Like this? Scroll over the image on the top right to pin it!

I was so excited to have made our own bright and colorful fingerpaints using only yogurt and food coloring. It takes no time at all, and this DIY alternative to store bought fingerpaints is cost effective and quick to make. Plus its always great to be able to make the colors and quantities that you want. My Little Miss has just entered into one of those growth spurt periods where suddenly she is learning and exploring at an exponential rate. With this growth, Mama needs to come up with new ways for her to experience the world around her. I thought back to what Mr P liked when he was this age, around 20 months and my mind went to tactile activities like fingerpaint and play-doh.

31 Ideas for Moms to Instagram Besides their Kids

Now, if you are following me on instagram, then you know that I am guilty of over-instagramming (is that a word?) my kids. And if you aren’t following me on Instagram, take a minute to go do so now, please. So, this list has been created for you as much as it has for me to help me diversify my instagram updates. But, who am I kidding…I know I will continue to instagram the wholly mole outta my kids cause they are just too darn cute!

Instagram is in the top 3 for social networks I enjoy and find pleasurable. Yes, you can  still ‘do business’ on Instagram, but it is also one of the more personal networks – not alot of spam, not alot of people pushing something with an agenda to serve. Even when an Instagram update is blog/review/sponsor related it is at least interesting because it is visual. I know many a people have taken to instagram quicker than Twitter because hey, for most people a stream of images is much more engaging than a stream of words, links and hashtag (hash what? Talk of Twitter, also in my top 3, for another time).
