Tips for a Successful Family Photography Shoot

I recently had  family photos taken at Coney Island. I was sooo looking forward to the experience as we have never had family photos done. The weather conditions were not as we hoped for at the beginning of April, but that didn’t really matter as our photographer was so good at putting us all at ease. Mr P warmed to her instantly, and his bright personality shone through in his time in front of the camera.
Besides having a professional photographer that is great at setting expectations and keeping everyone relaxed, I asked our photographer Rachel from Rachel Knowles Photography what else a family can do to make their photography session successful.

The most common question I find myself getting asked as a photographer is “What should we wear?” I’ve put together a list of tips and tricks that can help any family getting ready for a family photo shoot.

3 Things I wish I’d Done Differently as a Mom

Happy Mother’s Day! I hope that if even for just a few minutes today you get the chance to celebrate you! I don’t know what is in store for my Mother’s Day except that I will happily be spending it with m 2 precious kids and Mr BAM. I try not to live a life full of regrets, but when it comes to my kids, sometimes I can’t help but think about how I could have done things or should’ve done things differently. Hey, it’s one thing to mess up your own path in life, but altogether another thing when you have your children’s future in the palm of your hands. Oh mother guilt! Some days I think I could write a book on it…or at least a few chapters.
But look at them, they look pretty happy don’t they?
After a particularly long and stressful week, with babysitter/nanny issues, deadlines at work, Little Miss recovering from a cold and passing it on to me, and Mr BAM traveling for work, I started to ask  myself if anything I was doing in life was actually getting accomplished at a level satisfactory enough to the high bar I set for myself. It’s good to examine your life every once and awhile, make sure that things that are taking over your life are actually making you happy. But just yesterday, I also realized that it is good to cut myself some slack.
But in an effort to bear it all, and show that I too am just a mom trying to do it all (whatever that elusive ‘all’ is), it’s not always easy and I wish I had the magic formula that made sure at any given time I was equally loving and being loved while feeling happy, healthy and fulfilled.

Pumpkin Spice Pretzels with a Side of Apple Butter

I posted this picture over the weekend to the Mama Goes BAM Facebook page, and the obvious joy on my son’s face had a few people enquire as to what the recipe was. My boy is a big eater, but he’s never usually one to rave about my cooking. I generally make simple but tasty food, so when he said ‘Mom, these are really good! Can I have another?’ I knew I was on to something. Especially since he is normally to busy in his toddler life to actually sit still long enough to eat!

Pretzels are a very New York kinda treat, and is up there with the ways I think New York is cool. But, most New York pretzels that you can purchase in the park are often huuuuge, and way more bready goodness than I need. Also, even though a pretzel looks good its sometimes hard and tough, not quite how I like my bread. And since I’ve started on the Shaklee 180 program I rarely even eat bread, so I figured since it is now a sometimes treat, rather than an everyday staple why not give making pretzels a whirl!

Tips for Choosing a Jogger Stroller and a BOB Revolution SE Review

I had the pleasure of testing out a BOB Revolution SE Stroller for the past couple of months and it has been fantastic! As someone who walks everywhere with my kids in between rides on the subway and even runs with them, this jogging stroller has been a great addition to our family. I only wish I had pictures of me running with her in the BOB, but sadly I would just dress her up warm and take off – we haven’t had as many warm days as I would have liked so far this year.

I was looking for something to replace our very ancient jogging stroller that served me well but had a few flaws that were telling me to kick it to the curb. First off the huuuge wheels and inability to fold it down without taking off all three tires was a big pain and waste of space for someone living in a Brooklyn apartment. All those old features that were meant to mean a more stable run with baby have been updated (for the better!) on the BOB Revolution SE. The back tires are a much more modern 16″, whereas they were about 20″ on my old model. The Revolution SE also has an easy, two-step folding, lightweight frame for convenient transport and storage – booyah!

Because it is so easy to fold down, this stroller replaces both my antiquated jogging stroller and my everyday stroller. The comfort, and ease of maneuverability means that it works equally well on uneven terrains, indoors and on sidewalks. My Little Miss enjoys the comfort of the padded seats and harness and I like the added safety of the 5 point harness,  the all important foot brake and especially the wrist strap. We’ve been able to go from walking and running on the sidewalk, to the bus, up and down subway stairs and even through grassy parks and on the beach – all with ease.

The Revolution SE ticks all the boxes as being the right jogging stroller for our family.

Check out the list below to make sure that your stroller is right for your family, if not get yourself a BOB Revolution SE, Mama Goes BAM is giving one away right now!

Learning to Accept Compliments and Other Hot Mama Problems

So I can tell you that the last 7 weeks on the Shaklee 180™ weight management program have been so great both for my physical and emotional well being. If you missed it, I did a video post at the end of last month detailing how much weight I’d lost at that point and what else I’d gained. Shaklee is providing me with a total of 6 months worth of products to help me on my journey to better health. I am just finishing up month 2 and can’t believe their are still 4 months to go (in a good way!). Basically my monthly box from the Shaklee Corporation includes 3 tins of non-GMO protein Smoothie mix, metabolic boost pills, tea, meal replacement bars and snack bars. You can see the products here on my personal page and even purchase if you are interested!

Ok, so these are the photos that started it all. The photos that have netted me compliments about how good I am looking. Including from people who don’t even know that I am trying to lose weight.

Classy family, right? :)
