Summer Solstice with Mind Over Madness Bikram in Times Square

How’s everyone’s summer going so far? I know, I know it has only been 2 days. I can’t help but feel that they have been a glorious 2 days though. The weather has been great – hot, breezy and not too much humidity. It is the weekend and I took a day off work on Friday (Summer Solstice) and headed to the Crossroads of the Worlds, better known as Times Square! Mr BAM was on Summer Friday so I signed us both up for a Bikram Yoga class smack in the middle of Times Square. It was phenomenal! I mean if you can find peace and focus in Times Square, then you can find it anywhere.

Preparing for mind over madness Bikram Yoga in Times Square

Back in 2005, I discovered Bikram Yoga at a Women’s Expo when I was living in Christchurch, New Zealand. The woman at the booth was offering  a one week pass, come as many times as you wanted for one week for $12, normally that was the cost of one class. Somehow she convinced me with her talk of the medical benefits, weight loss and natural facial (I came to realize this last one was true – my face always glowed when I did Bikram!). My husband was going away on business that week, and I thought what the hey, I’d give it a try! I did 3 classes that week, slept like a baby each time, loss weight and was hooked.

My husband noticed the difference when he returned (yes, after one week!) and though it took a few months, he eventually came to classes with me. I ended up being a fantical Bikram yogi, turning several friends onto the practice and continuing to practice just shy of 2 months before Mr P’s due date of October 31, 2007. I did a few classes after his birth, but have never ben able to get back into the same groove. With classes lasting 90 minutes, plus final savasana “corpse pose” (final relaxation) of 5 or so minutes, plus showering time, that is 2 hours plus that I have had a hard time finding since kids.

31 Ideas for Moms to Instagram Besides their Kids

Now, if you are following me on instagram, then you know that I am guilty of over-instagramming (is that a word?) my kids. And if you aren’t following me on Instagram, take a minute to go do so now, please. So, this list has been created for you as much as it has for me to help me diversify my instagram updates. But, who am I kidding…I know I will continue to instagram the wholly mole outta my kids cause they are just too darn cute!

Instagram is in the top 3 for social networks I enjoy and find pleasurable. Yes, you can  still ‘do business’ on Instagram, but it is also one of the more personal networks – not alot of spam, not alot of people pushing something with an agenda to serve. Even when an Instagram update is blog/review/sponsor related it is at least interesting because it is visual. I know many a people have taken to instagram quicker than Twitter because hey, for most people a stream of images is much more engaging than a stream of words, links and hashtag (hash what? Talk of Twitter, also in my top 3, for another time).

A Family Walk Through Brooklyn Bridge Park and DUMBO

On a sunny weekend day when I am looking to relax,  you will easily find me and the family heading either 15 minutes south to the Beach or 15 minutes North to DUMBO. DUMBO stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. This artistically charming neighborhood in Brooklyn is home to some of the city’s most famed artists and fashion designers as well as pizza at Grimaldi’s, the amazing Jane’s Carousel housed within the Brooklyn Bridge Park, the weekly outdoor food fest known as Smorgasburg and the decadent home of Jacques Torres Chocolate.

DUMBO is also clearly a great vantage point to catch some of the best views back into Manhattan from between the larger than life Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges.

Can you see the One World Trade Center in the background?

Easy Recipe for Lemonade Strawberry Shortcake Push Pops

If you like it, don't forget to place your mouse over the top right hand side to pin this image!

Did you know that June 14th is National Strawberry Shortcake Day? Well it is! I decided to try my hand at a different and easy twist on an old fave to get you in the mood for the holiday. Not only did I want this Strawberry shortcake recipe to be easy, but I also wanted it to be healthy, well at least attempt to be 😉 So rather than using whipped cream, I used Greek Yogurt (hmm, hmm, good!) and then jazzed up the flavor with Lemonade flavored Crystal Light. As my first attempt with push-pops, I was pleasantly surprised with the tasty results!

Month 3 on Shaklee 180™ and Still Losing Weight!

Join me in doing a 180

disclosure: This is a sponsored post as part of the Shaklee Corporation blogger program. I have received free products, online support and incentives for participating in the Shaklee Corporation blogger program. My opinions are my own.  People following the weight-loss portion of the Shaklee 180™ Program can expect to lose 1-2 pounds per week. I am also a Shaklee Independent Distributor.

This month I faced a few more challenges, and though I still had a loss I am a bit disappointed in my lack of willpower as I gave in to too many dinners out and other temptations. In the video, I talk all about how I feel I did this past month.

The nicest thing about this month is that I started to get compliments on my physique, my husband said I was definitely showing more definition in my arms. My sister that I haven’t seen since Christmas said she noticed the changes in my body – from smaller boobs (I’m down a cup size!) to a slimming in my face. I have to admit, I’ve noticed the change in my face as well.

I still can’t believe that I have lost 15.8 lbs in 3 months. I’m looking forward to the next (and final!) 3 months and seeing what my body can accomplish.  In my next post, I hope to share what’s swirling around in my head about what the end goal in this whole program looks like.

Is my tummy getting flatter in these pictures or am I dreaming?

As always, remember to follow along with me and the other Shaklee bloggers using the hashtag #Shakleeblogger on Twitter (@OMGhada) and Instagram (@ghadav).

I need your help to keep me motivated for the next 3 months!

Share your most motivational, kick up the butt words of wisdom, please :)

Eating the Italian Way with Rocco DiSpirito at #FitBlogNYC

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending the invite-only #FitBlogNYC at the Mercedes Club in Manhattan. The event was put on by FITNESS Magazine, the only magazine I religiously devour in a bath when it arrives on my doorstep every month. I was lucky to have been able to sit in on conversations from sone of today’s great trainers, doctors and Chefs! I also had the opportunity to demo beverages, health food and apparel, yet I was under no obligation to write anything. I am sharing this post as hearing Rocco Dispirito speak was entertaining and engaging and in fact I will share more posts about the event soon!

Outside on a gorgeous day on the Mercedes Club rooftop listening to Chef Rocco Dispirito

Rocco Dispirito has what my high school religion teacher called a “proselytizing spirit” – meaning he can convert you into doing just about anything, kinda like a cult leader. This is a Chef that took his craft back home to Italy so that he could cook with the “mamas” and understand old Italian traditions as well as adapt them to a healthy lifestyle. His conversation with FITNESS Editor Pam O’Brien was frank and to the point with some new-to-me food ideas that I can’t wait to put into practice. One of the golden nuggets he shared was this:
