10 Inspirations for February NaBloPoMo

NaBloPoMo February 2012

I started this blog primarily to write. Writing for me has always been therapeutic and a way to rediscover myself. I also like having readers comment, so that is why I am thankful for all of you! Back in November I attempted to do NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) with BlogHer. Well, November was a full-on month for me with the birth or Monkey #2, the hospitalization of that same little baby and then packing up to move from Manhattan to Brooklyn by the end of that month. Well, I survived that super crazy month and have had an awesome Christmas and am thoroughly enjoying the new year in New York.

BlogHer facilitates NaBloPoMo every month, so any blogger is at liberty to jump in at any time throughout the year. I’ve decided to give it another whirl for February. BlogHer sets a theme word for the month to help focus your writing, but the only real rule to NaBloPoMo is to write something every day – that’s it! I’ve already got a fantastic Valentine’s series of posts I’m excited to share with you, and I’m looking forward to exploring the theme they’ve set forth for February – Relative.

If you’re joining up, here’s some ideas of where you can go for inspiration to crank out 29 consecutive posts this February.

  1. Flip through magazines and newspapers for topic ideas. Even glossies can inspire. Pull out photos, cut out headlines and stack them together. Use them as starting points on days when you just cannot figure out what to write about.
  2. Use the NaBloPoMo writing prompts for the word Relative. You can sign up to receive these everyday from Monday to Friday or follow @BlogHerBlogging on Twitter
  3. Write a post about a “relative” who has had an impact on your life
  4. Have your readers support you and ask them what they’d like you to write about
  5. February specific inspirations include Valentine’s Day, Superbowl and Black History Month
  6. Winter warming recipes
  7. GroundHog Day (Feb 2): write about a time when you have felt like everyday is the same
  8. Random Act of Kindness Day (Feb 17): Pay it Forward online or in real life and then blog about it
  9. What’s in your handbag
  10. What’s on your desk/desktop/computer/browser – what social network are you most enjoying at the moment

So, knowing what you know about me, what would you like to see me write more about? If you’re new here, check out my about page or browse ‘What I’m Writing About’ in the sidebar to give you some ideas of what you’d like me to further explore.

  1. I find inspiration in my day to day life and in the news. I make sure to listen to the news everyday! I read the paper’s headlines too! I love your blog. I would love to read more about NewYork and your journey through breastfeeding!

  2. I’ve never heard of NaBloPoMo, but think it’s a great idea! I tried to start a blog a while back, but felt I had nothing to write about. It would definitely be a help to people like me. Glad to hear you and yours are doing well 🙂
